Therapy

Metro Academy’s Massage Therapy program combines an experienced faculty, comprehensive curriculum, strong clinic program, preparation for the national exam and state licensure and career placement assistance to enable our graduates to start their own businesses, or succeed in any facet of the career they wish to pursue.

Certifications

Our 700-hour program includes the 600 hours required by the state of Pennsylvania. The additional 100 hours provides our students with the additional massage techniques and experience necessary to give them a competitive edge in the job market. The program covers trigger-point therapy, deep-tissue techniques, prenatal and infant massage, condition-specific massage, active isolated stretching, hot and cold therapy and geriatric massage. Our graduates are proficient in Swedish massage, clinical reasoning, and kinesiology. They are CPR certified, have a firm knowledge of Pa. law and ethics, and know how to start their own businesses. They are prepared for the MBLeX exam.

High Demand

Employment of massage therapists is projected to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Continued growth in the demand for massage services will lead to new openings for massage therapists.

Overview

Metro uses books accepted widely in the massage community and training includes a firm base in Swedish massage. You will gain knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology and Kinesiology (the muscles), experience in our clinic with real life clients, and learn business practices to take with you into your own practice.

Our partnerships with AMTA and ABMP keep us ahead in the field, we are able to see trends and keep our program fresh and up to date. Our program requires 700 hours which exceeds the state requirement 600 hours. The extra 100 hours establishes us as ahead of the curve on trends in the field and gives the student more hands on time to hone their craft. Students will be prepared to take their certification test and apply for a license at the end of the program, and we help with the process.
